Open the trunk to the Toyota Camry. Remove the interior trunk liner from the back of the vehicle. Use a Phillips screwdriver to twist the small center screw from the middle of the plastic fastener. Remove enough fasteners to allow you to get to the license plate light assembly. Turn the license plate light socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn to release it. They may be tight, but this is how they come out.
Insert the socket back into the assembly and turn a quarter turn clockwise until locked into place. Reinsert the plug fasteners in the liner. Push them into the predrilled holes and push down onto the plastic screw. Determine what type of light bulb you need.
This can be done by consulting the owners manual for your Acura. Remove the license plate light-bulb cover. Using a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the clear gas shield from over the light bulbs. Gently unscrew the light bulb from its socket. Compare the old and new bulbs to make sure that they are the same size and type. Insert the new bulb into the socket, and tighten it into place by turning it clockwise. Do not overtighten it. The light bulb should fit snugly in its socket, but overtightening can break the light bulb or the socket.
Replace the clear glass covers, and secure them back into position using your Phillips screwdriver. Test the license plate bulb by turning on your nighttime lights and checking to see if the bulb that illuminates the license plate is lit.
Open the trunk of your Avalon. Pull free the clips that secure the black plastic lining inside the trunk. Set the lining aside. Unclip the sensor by pulling it straight down. Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Pull the bulb out of the socket and replace it with a new bulb. Insert the new bulb into the assembly and turn it clockwise to lock it in place.

Pry out your license plate light with a flat blade screwdriver and service the bulb. It just pulls right out. Then, you just push your new one into place. To change the whole assembly, just pull these two harnesses free. On the left is the old license plate light. On the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same.
Take your bulb and push it into your new license plate light, and reconnect those two harnesses. Push your license plate light back up into place. If it doesn't snap in, check behind it and make sure the harnesses aren't getting in the way.
